Frequently Asked Questions

Why is this program just for men?,

MARC is a program made by men, for men. We believe that the attitudes which perpetuate and diminish the severity of rape and the choices that men make to exert power and control over others sexually are learned. We also believe that men have the unique opportunity and responsibility to help other men "unlearn" these attitudes and behaviors.

What is rape?

According to Florida law, rape is defined as "sexual battery" and means the "oral, anal, or vaginal penetration by, or union with, the sexual organ of another or the anal or vaginal penetration of another by any other object" without given consent. [Florida Statute 794.011(h)]

What is consent?

According to Florida law, "consent means intelligent, knowing, and voluntary consent and does not include coerced submission. Consent shall not be deemed or construed to mean the failure by the alleged victim to offer physical resistance to the offender." [Florida Statute 794.011(a)]

Rape is a men's issue...

Men Rape.

Males commit the great majority of all sexually violent crimes.

Men Are Raped.

Men are also sexually assaulted. Studies show that a staggering 10-20% of all males are sexually violated at some point in their lives.

Rape Confines Men.

When 80% of those who are raped know the man who attacked them, it becomes virtually impossible to distinguish men who are safe and can be trusted from men who are dangerous. The result is a society with its guard up, where relationships with men are approached with fear and mistrust, and where all men are considered "potential rapists."

Men Know Survivors.

At some point in every man's life, someone close to him will likely disclose that they are a survivor of sexual violence and ask for help. Men must be prepared to respond with care, sensitivity, and understanding.

Men Can Stop Rape!

Rape is a choice men make to use sex as a weapon for power and control. All men can challenge negative attitudes and behaviors and raise awareness about the damaging impact of sexual violence.
